€10bn staffing group relaunches as Vertage, betting on AI agents alongside human talent
The News
HeadFirst Global, formed from the 2024 integration of HeadFirst Group and Impellam Group, has relaunched as Vertage, uniting 11 operating businesses under one name and platform, The Global Recruiter reported on 24 September 2026. The €10 billion group, which places 1.5 million specialists across 80 countries, says Vertage will let enterprises define the work outcome they need rather than the headcount or rate card, with AI matching the right specialist — human or AI agent — to the work. Group CEO Edzard Overbeek called it "more than a rebrand" and a move to "build advantage" in what he termed the intelligence era. Every deployment, human or AI, is intended to be governed and visible through a single platform.
Why It Matters
A major workforce-solutions player publicly reframing its offer around outcomes rather than headcount is a signal worth noting. If the model takes hold, it pressures the logic that underpins most contingent workforce and RPO arrangements — buying bodies at a markup — and replaces it with buying results, some of which AI agents deliver directly. For a TA leader, the nearer-term relevance is the convergence it represents: the same suppliers you use for staffing are building the AI capability that may reduce how much staffing you buy from them. It is worth understanding now, while you still have the procurement leverage to shape how it lands in your organisation.
Taking Action
All action is situated in your corporate context. These are starting points, not prescriptions — choose what fits.
Connect
Who to talk with in your enterprise
Talk to your head of contingent workforce or MSP lead: ask whether any of your suppliers are pitching outcome-based or AI-agent-augmented models, and what that means for your existing rate cards and statement of work. Then brief your HR technology lead on whether your own systems can even capture outcomes rather than headcount, because the gap between what suppliers promise and what your HRIS can measure is where this model will either work or quietly fail.
Inspect
What to take a closer look at
Review the governance in your current staffing and RPO contracts for any clause that allows the supplier to substitute AI agents for human workers without your consent. If the contract is silent on it, you have ceded a decision you may not have realised you were making.
Reflect
What to think about more deeply
If your staffing supplier can deliver the outcome with fewer people and more software, are you still buying talent — or are you buying a service you could arguably build or buy cheaper elsewhere once the platform matures?
