Bullhorn survey: 92% of candidates rate AI voice interviews as good as or better than human

Bullhorn · 2026-09-24

Bullhorn released its 2026 GRID Talent Trends Report on 23 September, based on a survey of nearly 2,300 professionals who worked with a recruitment firm in the past three years across North America, the UK and Ireland, Benelux, DACH and APAC. The report finds that 92% of candidates interviewed by an AI voice agent rated the experience as good as or better than a live interview with a recruiter, and 93% of candidates who had a positive AI experience said they would work with that staffing firm again. Sixty-nine percent of candidates reported encountering AI through their staffing firm, with 81% rating that experience positively. Fifty-five percent identified job matching as the most valuable AI use, with faster communication and quicker hiring processes also cited as top benefits.

The headline figure — 92% rating AI voice interviews on par with or above human interviews — will surprise TA leaders who have treated candidate skepticism toward AI as a given. Bullhorn's data suggests the opposite among candidates who have actually experienced it: when AI makes the process faster, more responsive and more relevant, satisfaction and loyalty follow. The implication for in-house TA teams is that candidate resistance to AI may be less about the technology itself and more about whether it is deployed where candidates see value — matching, responsiveness and speed — rather than where it simply cuts employer cost. Sixty-five percent of candidates said the AI they encounter in recruitment is better than the AI they use in everyday life, suggesting the bar is being set by the sector, not dragged down by it.

Who to talk with in your enterprise

Share these findings with your head of candidate experience and your recruitment technology lead. The question to put to them: if 92% of candidates who experience AI voice interviews rate them favourably, what is stopping you from piloting one where candidate drop-off is highest — likely at the top of funnel or scheduling stage? Ask your talent analytics lead to benchmark your current response times against the expectations Bullhorn's data describes.

What to take a closer look at

Review where AI currently sits in your recruitment process and map it against where candidates say it adds value — job matching, response to every application, and process speed. If your AI investment is concentrated in screening or assessment rather than these three areas, you may be optimising for employer efficiency over candidate experience, and the loyalty data suggests that trade-off carries a cost.

Reflect

What to think about more deeply

If candidates who experience AI in recruitment rate it higher than the AI they use in their daily lives, what does that say about the gap between the candidate experience you think you are delivering and the one your tools could deliver?
