HireVue Launches AI Voice Interviewer — Two-Way Voice Interviews at Scale, Grounded in 20 Years of Hiring Science

HireVue · 2026-06-19

HireVue, the global leader in skills-based hiring, has launched HireVue AI Interviewer — a voice-based solution that conducts dynamic, two-way interviews with every applicant around the clock. The tool scores responses against industrial-organisational (IO) validated rubrics built from thousands of outcome studies, giving recruiters an evidence-backed prioritisation of candidates before a single screening call.

"The hiring technology market is full of AI that moves fast and proves nothing," said Jeremy Friedman, CEO of HireVue. "HireVue AI Interviewer combines a breakthrough in conversational AI scale with the validated hiring science we have built for over two decades and over 180 million completed assessments."

The launch builds on HireVue's March acquisition of Hireguide's technology, and strengthens the company's focus on hiring quality rather than just speed. HireVue serves over 1,150 global customers including more than 60% of the Fortune 100.

The significance here isn't just another AI interview tool — it's the distinction HireVue is drawing between speed and accuracy. Most AI hiring tools promise faster pipelines but skip the validation step, which means you fill roles faster but may not fill them better. HireVue is betting that enterprise TA leaders increasingly care about the latter.

For large enterprises drowning in look-alike applications — where candidate fraud and AI-polished resumes are eroding trust in the entire screening process — the ability to put every applicant through a validated skills-based voice interview before a human recruiter gets involved could fundamentally change the screening funnel. The question is whether candidates will tolerate voice interviews at volume, or whether the experience feels more like an obstacle than an opportunity.

All action is situated in your corporate context. These are starting points, not prescriptions — choose what fits.

Who to talk with in your enterprise

Your head of candidate experience — Ask them to run a small pilot using HireVue AI Interviewer for one high-volume role, then survey candidates on whether the voice interview felt respectful and fair, or off-putting. The candidate experience angle is the make-or-break factor here.

Your selection science or assessment lead — If your organisation has an IO psychology or assessment function, get their view on HireVue's validation claims. They'll know how to read the outcome studies and can advise whether the rubrics map to your specific roles.

Your procurement or HR technology team — HireVue already sits in many enterprise stacks for video interviewing. Ask them to review the existing contract and scope whether AI Interviewer can be added without a full re-procurement.

Inspect

What to take a closer look at

Audit your current screening funnel for a single high-volume role: count how many candidates enter the pipeline versus how many make it to a recruiter screen. If the drop-off or filter failure rate is high, voice-based pre-screening could be a structural fix, not just a nice-to-have. Specific tool to look at: Your ATS's candidate-to-screen conversion report, broken down by source of application.

Reflect

What to think about more deeply

The most interesting question isn't whether AI can interview candidates at scale — it's whether validated skill measurement actually changes who gets hired, or whether it just formalises existing biases into a rubric that feels more defensible. If the same people get hired either way, what are we really optimising for?
