AI in TA Is Widespread but Not Broad — Integration Gap Is Costing ROI

HR Dive · 2026-06-04

A joint report from iCIMS and Aptitude Research, surveying 412 TA professionals, confirms what many in the field already suspected: AI adoption in talent acquisition is widespread but shallow.

The most common use cases, in order: screening, candidate communication, assessments, and sourcing. But few organisations reported using AI "broadly" across their hiring process. Meanwhile, Korn Ferry data cited in the report shows that most HR teams operate between 3 and 10 different talent platforms, and only 5% say those platforms are fully connected.

The consequence? It can take weeks to access connected insights across the tech stack. The very inefficiency AI is meant to solve is being recreated by fragmented implementation.

This is the single most frustrating dynamic in TA tech right now: AI is being added tool-by-tool rather than being woven into a coherent system. Every vendor offers an AI feature, so teams end up with multiple AI point solutions that don't talk to each other. The result is a stack that's simultaneously over-automated and under-integrated.

The report quotes Tim Sackett of Aptitude Research: "The companies seeing the most success are using AI to remove friction from the hiring process while keeping human judgment at the center of decisions." The key word is friction — if your AI tools are adding steps rather than removing them, you're doing it wrong.
